Before they could complete the building, being low on funds, they made an arrangement with the members of Masonic Lodge No. 296 and with Hollister B. Dewey. The Masons agreed to pay for the cost of the third floor, provided that they could use that floor for their meetings. Dewey agreed to finish the basement, provided he could have a long-term lease to use for his furniture and undertaking business. Their lease with the Town of Clayton was not renewed in 1993, but they were allowed to stay there until they united with another Lodge. With no elevator in the building, these elderly men found the stairs difficult to manage. Eventually, they joined the Mason’s Lodge in Depauville and stored their furniture at a Lodge in Chaumont.

When the government offices were added to the bottom floors, it became not only a musical venue, but a community center. More than 100,000 people have signed up for the Young ROH scheme which allows 16 to 25-year-olds to purchase tickets at £30 for midweek performances. Friday Rush seats are also released each week, offering last-minute and reduced price tickets. Ticket prices range from £3 in the Linbury, £4 for main stage ballet programmes and £8 for operas, to £340 for those wanting the best seats in the house for Die Walküre. The Walt Disney Concert Hall was designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry. Despite being a well-accomplished architect at the time of design, Gehry found himself an unlikely candidate for the job when the Disney family was looking for the hall's designer.

24 Season

The Clock Tower of the Town Hall was donated by the Civic Club in 1905 and a four-sided clock, which struck every half hour, was donated by the H. Also, in 1905, a bell was donated to the Village of Clayton by the late A. H. Vandergrift of Washington, D.C., who had a palatial summer home on Long Rock Island. The bell, operated by the clock mechanism, rang the hours for a great many years.

Dick Munro, Bill Danforth, and Bill Munro are grandsons of William and Norma Danforth. During World War II, the clock was removed so the tower could be used as an observation tower. A walk around with a protective railing was built on each side of the tower. After the war, it was discovered someone had donated the gears, counterweights and other parts of the clock to the scrap drive as another patriotic gesture. However, the bell was preserved and is on display in the area of the Town of Clayton Offices, in the basement of the Opera House. The Opera House had a seating capacity of 750, and at the time, had the largest stage in Jefferson County.

Now pursuing a degree in writing at Syracuse University, she is happy to combine her two passions-- music and writing-- in her every day life. TIPAF raised $3.25 million from private donations and grants for the renovations and remains in an agreement with the Town of Clayton to manage the Opera House. The cornerstone of the Opera House was laid in August 1903 and the building was completed in July 1904.

We currently have three full-time employees, one part-time employee and approximately 70 volunteers. We have over 250 Patrons who donate yearly to our organization to help us continue our mission. Additionally, we have businesses that support us through show sponsorships and other donations. During a period of years, starting in the late 1970’s, a group of enthusiastic local teachers and others formed a group called the Thousand Islands Community Theater. Coinciding with the weekend of the annual Clayton Christmas parade, this group put on a Christmas play with music, which presented a different theme each year. Julie Garnsey has been Executive Director of the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund, Inc. at the Clayton Opera House since April 2014.

Raked Stage

In 1950, the theater company called the Thousand Islands Playhouse moved into the Opera House for five summers, July through Labor Day. They had a professional acting group from New York City and presented such plays as “Streetcar Named Desire”, “Design for Living”, “Arsenic and Old Lace”, “Tobacco Road”, and “Seven Year Itch”. The very first entertainment in the Opera House was presented by the Traveler’s Club in early January 1904. The first big dance held there was the Fireman’s Ball on February 10, 1904 with music provided by Whittier & Lapatra’s orchestra. In 1920, according to Grace Louise Frink Reinman, a polished brass weathervane, which depicts the traditional large fish of the area, the muskellunge, was crafted by Carl Frink, founder of the Frink Snow Plow Company. At that time Mr. Frink had a vulcanizing and automobile tire sales business on Riverside Drive where the US Customs office was located.

“In a fragmented world where so much of people’s cultural life is mediated digitally we bring people together in one shared space to reflect on the bits of life that really matter, and we do so with unrivalled force. With not just our longstanding members but also the next generation of ballet and opera goers” said Beard. Victoria Baker has been involved in music since she started (and hated) piano lessons in kindergarten. Her tears in piano led to her love of violin and electric guitar, as well as musical theatre.

End of an era and the start of another

A George Balanchine triple bill will celebrate the leading US choreographer born 120 years ago. The Clayton Opera House, a year-round performance center for the Thousand Islands region, has announced the 2024 lineup of event. From rock and roll to Celtic musicals to comedians, everyone will find their niche at this historic opera house. The season opens with James Darrah’s production of “Mitridate.” The opera stars Lawrence Brownlee, Brenda Rae, John Holiday, Vanessa Goikoetxea, Angela Yam, Alexis Peart, and Charles Sy. The Clayton Opera House is a renowned, year-round cultural institution for the presentation of the performing arts.

The second cast will include Ewa Płonka, Gwyn Hughes Jones, Gemma Summerfield, and Jerzy Butryn with Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducting. Sonya Yoncheva returns to the title role of Puccini’s “Tosca” alongside a cast starring SeokJong Baek and Bryn Terfel. The company will present a double bill “Trouble in Tahiti” and “A Quiet Place.” The productions will be conducted by Nicholas Chalmers and will star Henry Neill, Wallis Giunta, Grant Doyle, Henry Neill, Rowan Pierce, Nick Pritchard, and Sarah Pring. “Carousel” will star Brandie Sutton, Jamie Barton, Anya Matanovic, Omar Najmi, Markel Reed, and Edward Nelson.

By comparison, the three existing halls of the Music Center cost $35 million in the 1960s (about $330 million in 2021 dollars). May Irwin of vaudeville fame, as well as actress Lillian Russell. William Danforth was considered one of the greatest comedians on the American stage. He was known especially for his performances in Gilbert and Sullivan and Victor Herbert operas. He and his actress wife, Norma Kopp, summered in the Thousand Islands for many years, before they bought their house on Murray Isle in 1926.

It was called a raked stage because it sloped toward the footlights, as did the scenery. The stage was built that way purposely, in order to give the audience the optimum view of the stage. Five sets of scenery were kept in the basement, where five dressing rooms were located.

A second cast will be led by Anna Goryachova, Charles Castronovo, Mané Galoyan, and Christian Van Horn. Ted Huffman directs a new production of Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” with Gordon Bintner, Kristina Mkhitaryan, Liparit Avetisyan, Avery Amereau, and Dmitry Belosselskiy. The first cast will be headlined by Aida Garifullina, Francesco Demuro, and George Petean, while the second will star Hrachuhí Bassénz, Ismael Jordi, and Simon Keenlyside. Blackhorse Lowe's mystical film, with music by Matthew Aucoin. And OperaWire came about as a desire to take in as much of it and allow the passionate fan base access to everything this wondrous art form has to offer on a daily basis. Boston Lyric Opera teams up with Boston Symphony Orchestra to present “Die Tote Stadt” starring Christine Goerke, Neal Ferreira, and Elliot Madore.

He was cautiously hopeful that the troubled English National Opera would continue to be a presence in the capital. Multiple voices are really important,” he said, pointing to the flourishing opera scenes in cities such as Paris and Berlin, both home to several opera companies. The inaugural concert of the Opera House on July 29, 2002 featured the P.I. Tchaikovsky Bolshoi Symphony Quartet and was a tremendous success. During the 1970’s, no theater-related activities were held because the Thousand Islands Museum was revamping the second floor after the Shipyard Museum and the Craft School opened in their new locations.

The evolution of the overall name sees the two companies whose home is the Royal Opera House unite in what Beard describes as “a massively overdue change”. “The Royal Opera House”, as the company was previously known, did not make clear that the Royal Ballet and the Royal Opera companies were part of the same organisation, Beard said. He promotes artists through PhanArt shows, highlighting music-inspired fan creations while supporting The Mockingbird Foundation and Groovesafe. In 2003, the Thousand Islands Performing Arts Fund (TIPAF) and the Town of Clayton contractually agreed upon the renovation and revival of the Opera House. TIPAF raised $3,275,000 for the 2007 renovation of the facility and now manages the ongoing operations of the Opera House.

It is an important cultural destination for residents and tourists of the Thousand Islands region. This venue can be rented for social functions, business activities and community events. Located north of Watertown, the Clayton Opera House in the town of Clayton is an historic performance venue, and serves as a hub for cultural and community events for over a centurty. Opened in 1903, the four-story brick building overlooks the St. Lawrence River, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Opera House was built for the Town of Clayton at a cost of $15,000.

It was the home of the LA Philharmonic for decades and the site for more than 20 Academy Awards presentations between 1969 and 1999. It has been the home of LA Opera since 1986, sharing its stage with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center. The concert hall houses Ray Garica's Astrid with collaborations with levy restaurants which offer other dining options throughout The Music Center complex. “Our name now describes the whole span of what we do,” he said, adding that it reflects the fact that the ROH is only one of many places where the company’s work is now experienced.

It was designed by Welton Becket using a “Total Design” aesthetic. Every facet from the building’s structure and engineering to its interior design—lighting fixtures, carpeting, typography, restaurant china and flatware—was designed by the firm for a unified and integrated look. Brexit is adding expense and layers of bureaucracy he said, but has not prevented them attracting the artists they want. “The visa regime is much much more difficult if you’re an individual or an orchestra performing or touring in Europe, which is damaging the ecology as a whole”, but he applauded the extension of theatre tax relief in the last budget – “an enormous help”.

The weathervane was donated to the Village of Clayton by Augusta (Lottie) Mann in memory of her husband after he died. The weathervane was an aid to fishermen, showing them which direction the wind was blowing. It had its first home on top of the Walton House where Mr. and Mrs. Mann had a suite when they came to Clayton for fishing trips. The hotel was located on the corner of Riverside Drive and James Street where Mars Pizza is now located. After the Walton House was torn down in 1930, the weathervane was placed on the roof of the Opera House. Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” will open the season with a cast that includes Luca Micheletti, Ying Fang, Huw Montague Rendall, Jacquelyn Stucker, and Ginger Costa-Jackson. Prior to creating OperaWire, DAVID SALAZAR, (Editor-in-Chief) worked as a reporter for Latin Post where he interviewed major opera stars including Placido Domingo, Anna Netrebko, Vittorio Grigolo, Diana Damrau and Rolando Villazon among others. His 2014 interview with opera star Kristine Opolais was cited in a New York Times Review. The Dorothy Chandler Pavilion has been the site of unparalleled performances by stunning music luminaries and virtuosos.

Beard pointed to their ever expanding learning programme that currently works in 1,500 schools reaching 40,000 children, while this upcoming season, 11 productions will be in 1,500 cinemas across the world. The Clayton Opera House, a Nationally Registered Historic Place, is a stately four-story brick structure overlooking the St. Lawrence River in downtown Clayton, New York. The Opera House has served as an important hub for cultural and community events for over a century and is a fine example of the vaudeville theaters which sprung up throughout the United States in the early 1900s. Today, TIPAF is a non-profit organization that is run by a Board of Directors of members.

Home-style seafood entrees

Click through to watch Guy Fieri have a blast cooking up two classic Monterey’s Fish House dishes – Oak Grilled Oysters and Sicilian Holiday Pasta. We feel borderline inappropriate rapidly devouring wood-fire-grilled octopus on Kyma’s white linen-covered tables. But it's easy to forget your surroundings—the giant ornate white pillars and posh international business groups—because that’s just how good the seafood is at this Greek restaurant in Buckhead.

The Hit List: New Atlanta Restaurants To Try Right Now

The giant 90-foot tall fish sculpture outside of this Buckhead seafood restaurant acts like a beacon to all who love fish and a little gaudiness. Come to this pillared, multilevel dining room to eat reliably good platters of fried scallops and shrimp, jumbo crab cakes, and Hong Kong-style halibut in a sherry soy rice bowl. Fish options are flown in daily, and you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else in town that offers a wider variety of seafood. Atlanta Fish Market may no longer hold the see-and-be-seen status it previously held for decades, but eating here can still rival the fine seafood houses of any coastal city. Since it opened in 2012, The Optimist has established itself as one of the premier spots for oysters in Atlanta.

Sea Salt

Start with the creamy new england chowder served in a mug (taking the phrase “good enough to drink” to new heights). Then move on any of the fish sandwiches, which is what this place does best. The crispy cod sandwich has such massive slices of the white fish that each piece hangs over the sides of the bread, and pickles and a vinegary slaw keep any dryness at bay.

Finney’s Crafthouse A Family Owned Restaurant & Bar Locations

This seafood restaurant sits in the outdated shopping plaza above the old Howell Mill Walmart that a shopper arsoned into non-existence. At night, salmon with a nice char comes with a side of hookah smoke and a bumping soundtrack from a DJ (there’s an elevated DJ booth just off the dining area). But we usually come during the more relaxed daylight hours to dive into their cheesy Sea Salt Dip with huge chunks of lobster and shrimp. Since Bully Boy opened off the Eastside BeltLine trail behind Two Urban Licks in 2018, it’s offered Atlantans a relaxed, Japanese seafood spot that does a little bit of everything. Start by slurping down a dozen Blue Point oysters before you move onto a couple of sushi rolls (we like the Godzilla roll with spicy salmon) and flaky red snapper or scallops over creamy risotto.

Atlanta Fish Market

All the usual dive bar trappings are present (low lighting, dark wood paneling, and creaky booths that’ve seen better days). But the owners of this VaHi spot went a step further and stuffed the menu with a variety of underwater things too. Since it’s an oyster house, start with a dozen (props if you wanna shoot for 48). Then move on to dishes like creamy lobster mac and cheese, perfectly crispy fried grouper, and blackened salmon. When a dribble of seafood gumbo trickles down your chin, it’s a surprise to find a heavy duty cloth napkin rolled and ready for use. It would be easy to dismiss this oyster and seafood spot as the second-rate version of The Optimist since Beetlecat is their more casual, more affordable sister restaurant.

Because they do many things well, bring a few friends so you can order more kaiseki-style plates. Seafood restaurants are generally good choices for date nights, but Buckhead's Snap Thai Fish House is our ace in the hole since the setting is as impressive as the food. The crisp, bright space is filled with big windows, gold rod benches, and dangling shapes that look like a school of fish. The coastal Thai menu isn't long and imposing, but that won’t stop the tempting roster of soups, starters, and sustainable catches from making you squirm in indecision. Just get the shrimp and scallop pasta bursting with basil and bell peppers or a chilean sea bass that pairs tremendously with massaman curry. Lure's seasonally-focused menu offers an array of classics like mussels, ceviches, fish tacos, lobster, organic salads, and simply seared fish served with unique sides.

Fontaine's Oyster House

But what really keeps us coming back is the massive patio and small-town atmosphere we seldom find in the busy city center. Regulars who’ve been coming here for decades swap stories with their favorite bartenders, while first-timers join the club with a sip of a fruity Goombay Smash. For a speedy seafood meal that doesn’t cut corners on quality, this is one of the best fast-casual spots in the A. They offer great fried fish, simple sides like corn muffins and yellow corn grits, and housemade seltzers all in a counter-service dining room.

We’ve eaten meals on planes that had more elbow room than this tiny Poncey-Highland seafood spot, but you won’t find a blackened grouper sandwich packed with this much spicy char anywhere else in the city. Fishmonger specializes in fish sandwiches ranging from lobster rolls to a fresh (not-canned) tuna melt, which is served cold despite the melted cheese stuck to hearty sourdough bread. And their seafood chowder and citrus-sprinkled ceviches are just as good as the bready dishes. Order at the counter and fight for one of the 10 or 12 seats inside the cramped room. Luckily you don't need tons of space to eat oysters and chow down on the city’s best fish sandwiches. Don’t let the down-home aesthetics deter you from scarfing down a meal at Fontaine’s—this dive bar fills a void for Atlantans who want to eat legit seafood in an uber-casual environment.

The Lure Oyster House serves a variety of fresh oysters, as well as unique specialties such as our renowned charbroiled oysters. Our bar features local wines and cocktails made with freshly squeezed fruit juices. Monterey’s Fish House is owned and operated by the DiGirolamo family, with deep roots in the Monterey fishing and restaurant industries.

The tender octopus, garnished with olives and red onions, is simply the best we’ve had in this landlocked city. Throw in some entrees like the light and flaky whole fagri or lemon-heavy halibut and you’ve got yourself a great seafood meal. Antonio (ToTo) Di Girolamo, David’s father, was born in Summerville, MA, one of twelve children of Sicilian immigrants Fillippo and Rosina. The family relocated to Monterey when ToTo was eight where ToTo worked alongside his father Fillippo in Monterey’s burgeoning fishing industry. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Petrof Bay, earning the Silver Star Medal during WWII. Lure Fish House is a family-owned restaurant featuring fresh and sustainable seafood from trusted sources.

But if raw, salty bivalves isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other fish in the sea. We’re talking thick swordfish cuts cooked in duck fat, a whole flounder doused in lemon, and a buttery lobster roll on a brioche bun. The dining room is massive, but it gets packed around dinner time so reservations are a good idea. Aside from serving excellent dishes, this West Midtown spot is one of the most well-known Atlanta seafood institutions so you should hit it at least once just to say you’ve been. Though we aren’t exactly known as a seafood city, we do love our aquatic foods, as evidenced by the number of crab shack chains that’ve tripled in the last few years. So yeah, our fresh-catches are flown in, but there are still plenty of Atlanta restaurants where the fish is flaky and the oysters are slurp-worthy.

It’s mostly because the nautical-themed decor can give off a questionable cruise ship vibe. But the real reason we go to this seafood restaurant is for their lobster roll, served on a buttery hamburger bun with chunks of lobster meat the size of a peach. But when Atlanta temps soar, we head to this bungalow joint just off the Eastside Trail and pretend there’s sand. Breaker Breaker technically sits in Inman Park and has a menu stuffed with seafood favorites like the well-seasoned blackened grouper sandwich and fried shrimp and fish platters. These are best enjoyed out on the narrow patio, which overlooks the BeltLine foot traffic. On those days when raw-dogging the ATL sun seems perilous, sit inside where you can still catch a breeze from the windows that open to allow walk-up bar service from the patio.

This isn’t the place to come for high-grade bluefin tuna or premium caviar, but for cheesy fish melts or a spicy Cajun shrimp boil with a view, it’s a solid seafood stop. C&S Oyster Bar in Vinings serves excellent seafood classics, which explains why this place has been Atlanta's go-to fish spot since it opened nearly two decades ago. The black and white photos and art deco light fixtures feel nostalgic for an era when old-money types would slurp oysters and martinis with reckless abandon. Come for a business lunch, and get the lobster roll with crispy shoestring fries. For dinner, the daily fish specials (think crab-stuffed grouper or soy-chili sea bass) always prove to be the best order at the table. Delicious fried seafood baskets, an unmissable lobster bisque, and low-salinity oysters are their seafood triple threat.

The 14 Best Seafood Restaurants In Atlanta Atlanta

monterey's fish house restaurant

Atlanta Fish Market

Start with the creamy new england chowder served in a mug (taking the phrase “good enough to drink” to new heights). Then move on any of the fish sandwiches, which is what this place does best. The crispy cod sandwich has such massive slices of the white fish that each piece hangs over the sides of the bread, and pickles and a vinegary slaw keep any dryness at bay.

C & S Oyster Bar

It’s mostly because the nautical-themed decor can give off a questionable cruise ship vibe. But the real reason we go to this seafood restaurant is for their lobster roll, served on a buttery hamburger bun with chunks of lobster meat the size of a peach. The 17 Best Vegan Restaurants In Atlanta

Charlotte, NC Hourly Weather Forecast

charlotte weather hourly radar

The swath of severe weather at risk Wednesday will be nearly identical to that of Tuesday and will extend from Nebraska and Iowa southward 900 miles to near the Big Bend area of the Rio Grande River in Texas. The vigil comes on the heels of the deadly shootout between law enforcement officers and a man they were trying to arrest. Four officers were killed in an exchange of gunfire with the suspect and four others were wounded. The suspect, who was being served a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, was also killed. The downpours will also bring the risk of flash flooding to some areas that were spared in recent days.

HOURLY FORECAST

Along with the tornado threat, storms will pack high winds, large hail, and torrential rain that can aggravate or initiate flooding problems. The threat of severe weather will continue from the second storm system Thursday. The threat zone will encompass much of the same areas as Tuesday and Wednesday but also extend farther to the east -- near the Mississippi River and east of the Mississippi in Illinois and Wisconsin.

CWSU meteorologists provide formal weather briefings to FAA supervisors within the   Air Route Traffic Control Center (ARTCC) for the day and evening shifts. Verbal briefings are given to individual controllers at the ARTCC and tower control facilities around the   airspace, as well as to equipment technicians when weather conditions dictate. Two types of written products are also provided by the CWSU meteorologists.

"We could be looking at more than a dozen tornadoes Wednesday in portions of the central and southern Plains," Rayno said. Weather is how the atmosphere is behaving and its effects upon life and human activities. Most people think of weather in terms of temperature, humidity, precipitation, cloudiness, brightness, visibility, wind, and atmospheric pressure. On average, there are 218 sunny days per year in Charlotte. Officers ordered Wilson and two others in the home to hide in a back room as the gunfire was ongoing.

Interfaith prayer vigil held Tuesday in east Charlotte for fallen officers

The overall threat of severe weather Tuesday afternoon and evening will extend as far to the south as west-central Texas. "This storm will bring a reprise of severe weather, mainly in the form of high winds and hail, but also the potential for tornadoes in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa on Tuesday afternoon and evening," Rayno said. Omaha, Nebraska, may be in the middle of the threat zone. Many of the same areas that were rocked and devastated by severe weather and flash flooding in recent days may be hit again or at least under the threat of severe weather, including tornadoes. Severe weather and the likelihood of more tornadoes will return to the central United States, spanning Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, AccuWeather meteorologists warn.

At around 4 p.m., Wilson said it had been largely quiet for the past hour. At quarter of 5 p.m., however, Wilson said he heard additional shots and officers walking around in his backyard. Wilson described the scene as “gunfire galore,” with officers army-crawling through his backyard, hiding behind trees, and jumping around bushes.

While this incident is isolated, recent crime has caught people's attention. Monday's tragedy happened just more than 17 years after two Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers died in the line of duty. The March 31, 2007 shooting claimed the lives of officers Jeff Shelton and Sean Clark while they tried to respond to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex.

— As east Charlotte continues to reckon with Monday's deadly shooting along Galway Avenue, three community groups offered a chance for neighbors to join together with a prayer vigil. The first storm system will swing quickly from the central Plains to the Upper Midwest from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The atmosphere was reloading Monday as the last gasp of thunderstorms pushed along the central Gulf Coast region with flooding downpours and gusty winds. Since Sunday, the group of storms has been responsible for 4-10 inches of rain and flash flooding in parts of Texas and Louisiana. Sadly, several people were killed, including an infant, in the violent storms and tornadoes from Friday to Sunday. Close to 1,000 incidents of severe weather occurred, including more than 125 tornadoes.

If HA does not tell you anything we have a super detailed, geeky explanation about it here. The TL; DR version of HA is that it's a huge polymer (big molecule from repeated subunits) found in the skin that acts as a sponge helping the skin to hold onto water, being plump and elastic.

These gilded eye patches from Peter Thomas Roth are super chic, but they’re also comfortable enough to wear in-flight, says Amy Siegal, a travel advisor at Valerie Wilson Travel. Siegal wears the luxe patches both on the plane and after she lands to combat dryness and puffiness. She likes them so much, in fact, she gifts them to clients before their own big trips. “Unlike ice or an ice bath, the dry cold provides a cold but comfortable feeling during the session,” says Jones. Personally, I’ve tried a cryotherapy facial as well as a cryotherapy treatment on my foot after a sprain and at no point was I in pain from either treatment. But a full-body experience can feel anything from slightly-strange to downright unbearable, depending on who you ask — at a recent industry event, one beauty editor had to step out before the full three minutes.

It usually has to be neutralized with a base (such as sodium hydroxide) for the thickening to occur and it creates viscous, clear gels that also feel nice and non-tacky on the skin. A corn sugar derived, water-soluble, pale yellow syrup, that nicely moisturizes the skin. It has a light and smooth skin feel, it is non-tacky, and it can improve the after-feel of the formula. The cream itself is much lighter compared to the Magic Eye Rescue, and sinks into the skin almost instantly. It is super brightening and I loved using it in the morning before applying my make-up.

It’s the perfect blend of luxury and effectiveness that would impress even the pickiest skincare enthusiasts. There’s something to be said about the thrill of unboxing a new product, especially when it feels as high-end as Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum. When I first laid eyes on the sleek, modern packaging, I felt like I was unwrapping a premium gift. With its cool touch and the promise of rejuvenation nestled inside, it felt like my birthday had come early.

New York–based beauty and style expert Katya Bychkova deploys a double whammy for long-haul flights, starting with Dermalogica’s Awaken Peptide Eye Gel. “It contains caffeine, a known anti-inflammatory and de-puffing ingredient,” Bychkova says. She chases that with Lancôme’s Advanced Génifique wrinkle and dark circle eye cream, a formula punched up with Vitamin C and nourishing hyaluronic acid. “It quenches my dehydrated skin while I’m up in the air and visibly reduces the appearance of dark circles,” she says. Oh, the quest for the perfect eye serum, it’s a beauty battleground out there, isn’t it?

"A cooling eye treatment serum."

A white powdery thing that's the major component of glass and sand. In cosmetics, it’s often in products that are supposed to keep your skin matte as it has great oil-absorbing abilities. It’s also used as a helper ingredient to thicken up products or suspend insoluble particles. Some experts even think that regular exposure to alcohol damages skin barrier and causes inflammation though it's a debated opinion. If you wanna know more, we wrote a more detailed explanation about what's the deal with alcohol in skincare products at alcohol denat. It’s part of 200 natural oils including lavender, ylang-ylang, bergamot, jasmine, geranium and it can be found in 90-95% of prestige perfumes on the market. It's a great ingredient to neutralize metal (especially iron and copper) ions in a cosmetic product. This helps to prevent discoloration of the formula over time or rancidity of cosmetic oils. It can also be a pH regulator and a humectant (helps skin to cling onto water).

Eye serums are dime a dozen in the beauty market, and the Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum was a product I was eager to put to the test. But on the whole, my experience with the Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum was more than satisfactory. My under-eyes seemed happier, and I was thrilled with the noticeable improvements. It was a win-win that brought me back to the product again and again.

It’s safe and gentle, but even more importantly, it’s not a feared-by-everyone-mostly-without-scientific-reason paraben. Similar to many other great non-fragrant plant oils, it's a great emollient and moisturising oil for dry skin. It's light in texture, absorbs fast into the skin and leaves it soft and supple. A common question about this product is whether or not it’s actually worth your hard-earned money. The Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum is a product that promises to cool, depuff, and awaken your eyes. Inspired by the high-performance ice-tech of cryotherapy, the Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum (15ml) is charged with the brand's IceAwake complex and caffeine, with a skin-cooling applicator tip for eyes that appear depuffed and smoothed.

Like an energising alarm clock for your eyes, Charlotte Tilbury's Cryo-Recovery Eye Serum (15ml) is a 3-in-1 targeted solution for eyes that appear fresher, brighter and wide awake in an instant. As for the amethyst-colored glass bottle, the color purple is said to symbolize balance and restoration, similar to the pull of a new moon, which is etched on the front with the Roman numeral ‘VIII’. That said, there’s no harm in trying it for yourself so long as you go to a licensed aesthetician or dermatologist well-versed in cryotherapy, and make sure not to endure more than a few minutes of exposure.

Currently, in the thick of winter, any ordinary primer usually doesn’t cut it. Bateaux Parisiens is one of the largest and most popular Seine cruise companies in Paris. Only the Eiffel Tower stop along the Batobus route is accessible to wheelchair users. If you want to use this as a sightseeing cruise, as long as you board there and stay on the lower deck you will be ok. Vedettes de Paris boats are now fully accessible to passengers with reduced mobility and on wheelchair, who will also find disabled toilets on board. There will also often (not always though, I am afraid) be a guide on the boat, offering up a running commentary of the sights you’ll see, giving you some insight into the history of each one. A cruise on the River Seine allows you to take in a whole swathe of Parisian sights. Let us know what company you chose and let us know your feedback and tips for other readers trying to decide on a boat tour.

Having some flexible dates allows you to reschedule if the forecast looks unfavorable on a given night. Popular dinner and sightseeing boats also tend to have covered glass roofs as a safeguard if showers blow through unexpectedly. For instance, the stop closest to the Eiffel Tower requires a 15-minute walk to get to the monument from the boat stop. Tickets can be purchased online, at any of the 9 Batobus stops, tourist information offices, or at the Paris L’Open Tour Boutique (3 rue Auber, Paris). In addition to dinner cruises, some cruise companies offer brunch, lunch, and special themed cruises that also serve food. During holidays (e.g., Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s Day, Bastille Day), you’ll find a number of special cruises and menus being offered. The cost of a meal cruise generally ranges from about 50 € to 200 € per person. Lunch and brunch cruises are usually less expensive than dinner cruises and specialty themed cruises. These provide a quick tour along the illuminated river, often with multilingual commentary about the iconic landmarks visible.

Upon boarding, diners are welcomed by a professional crew, helping you to unwind in a relaxing yet sophisticated atmosphere. Comfortable dining chairs and tables face the panoramic windows, while there’s also an open-air upper terrace when the weather is good. You can either purchase a Batobus pass online or directly at one of the nine stops. If you wish to get it online, for easy I recommend using the GetYourGuide site.

Walk along pathways bordered with nasturtiums, hollyhocks, hybrid lilies or snapdragons, and go through the tunnel that leads to the Water Garden and the Japanese Bridge. The boat will be laid out for lunch so you can tuck into your baguette surrounded by the scenery that inspired some of France’s greatest artists. It begins out of town at the opulent Palace of Versailles, takes you up to the summit of the Eiffel Tower and ends with a relaxing one-hour cruise along the Seine.
